Why the Equipment Matters More Than You Think

Most people assume wheel alignment is wheel alignment — that any garage with an alignment ramp will produce the same result. That's not quite right. The precision of the measurement equipment determines the precision of the correction.

Older sensor-based systems clip physical targets onto your wheels. If a sensor is knocked, worn, or slightly miscalibrated, the reading is wrong — and the correction is wrong. You leave thinking your alignment is sorted, but one wheel is still slightly out.

The Hunter HawkEye Elite eliminates that problem entirely. It uses high-definition cameras that never touch your wheels. There's nothing to knock, nothing to calibrate between jobs. The measurement is either accurate or it isn't — and with this system, it is.

Signs Your Alignment Needs Checking

  • Car pulls left or right when you release the steering wheel
  • Steering wheel is off-centre when driving straight
  • Uneven or rapid tyre wear on one edge
  • Vibration through the steering wheel at speed
  • Car feels unstable or wanders on motorways
  • Recently hit a pothole, kerb, or speed bump hard
  • New tyres fitted — protect your investment

How the HawkEye Elite Works

Four technologies work together to produce a measurement result that older systems simply can't match.

Camera-Based Measurement

No physical wheel contact

The HawkEye Elite uses four high-definition cameras mounted on a fixed gantry to image your wheels simultaneously from multiple angles. Because nothing physically touches the wheel during measurement, there's no risk of sensor slip or calibration error — a common failure point on older clip-on sensor systems.

Real-Time Live Display

Instant feedback during adjustment

As the technician adjusts each wheel angle, the system updates the readings in real time on a large display. This means corrections are made precisely to the target value — not estimated by feel. The technician sees exactly when each angle hits the manufacturer's specification.

Before & After Report

Printed proof of every adjustment

Every alignment produces a printed report showing your vehicle's angles before and after the service. You can see exactly what was out of specification, what was adjusted, and what the final values are. This is the same level of documentation used by main dealer service centres.

Full Measurement in Seconds

Four wheels, all angles, simultaneously

Traditional alignment systems measure one wheel at a time, requiring the car to be repositioned between readings. The HawkEye Elite captures all four wheels in a single pass, reducing measurement time and eliminating the positional errors that can creep in when a car is moved mid-process.

The Four Angles the HawkEye Measures

Wheel alignment isn't a single measurement — it's four distinct angles, each affecting your tyres and handling in a different way. The HawkEye Elite measures all four simultaneously across all four wheels.

Toe

Whether the fronts of your tyres point inward (toe-in) or outward (toe-out) when viewed from above. Even a fraction of a degree of incorrect toe causes rapid tyre wear on the inner or outer edge and increases rolling resistance.

Most common cause of feathered tyre wear

Camber

The vertical tilt of the tyre when viewed from the front. Negative camber (top of tyre leaning inward) is normal on many modern cars, but excessive camber causes one-sided tyre wear and affects cornering stability.

Causes one-sided tyre wear

Caster

The angle of the steering axis when viewed from the side. Caster affects straight-line stability and steering return. Unequal caster between left and right causes the car to pull to one side even when the steering wheel is centred.

Causes steering pull and instability

Thrust Angle

The direction the rear axle points relative to the vehicle centreline. A thrust angle problem means the rear wheels are pushing the car slightly sideways, causing the front wheels to compensate — leading to a 'crab walk' and uneven wear across all four tyres.

Causes dog-tracking and uneven wear

Why All Four Angles Interact

Adjusting one angle affects the others. A technician who corrects toe without checking camber may inadvertently introduce a new problem. The HawkEye Elite displays all angles simultaneously, so adjustments are made with full awareness of the whole picture — not just the angle being corrected.

Not all alignment equipment is equal. Here's what separates camera-based systems from older sensor technology.

When to Book Your Alignment Check

The initial check is free. If your alignment is within tolerance, you'll know — and you won't pay for an adjustment you don't need.

After hitting a pothole or kerb

Book soon

A single significant impact can knock one wheel out of alignment while the others remain correct. The car may not pull noticeably, but one tyre will be wearing faster than the others.

Car pulling left or right

Book now

Persistent pulling means your alignment is outside tolerance. Every mile driven in this state is accelerating tyre wear and increasing fuel consumption.

Uneven tyre wear noticed

Book now

By the time you can see uneven wear, the misalignment has already cost you tyre life. Getting it corrected now prevents the remaining tread from wearing unevenly too.

New tyres fitted

Recommended

Fitting new tyres on a misaligned car is one of the most expensive mistakes in car maintenance. A £30 alignment check protects a £200–£600 tyre investment.

Choose Your Alignment Service

Both services use the Hunter HawkEye Elite. The difference is how many wheels are adjusted.

2-Wheel Alignment

Front wheels only. Suitable for most front-wheel-drive cars where the rear suspension geometry is fixed and cannot be adjusted.

  • Front toe and camber adjusted
  • Correct for most FWD vehicles
  • Faster service, lower cost
  • Full HawkEye measurement report
Recommended

4-Wheel Alignment

All four wheels measured and adjusted. Essential for AWD, 4WD, and vehicles with adjustable rear suspension. Gives the most complete result.

  • All four wheels measured simultaneously
  • Thrust angle correction included
  • Essential for AWD and 4WD vehicles
  • Comprehensive before & after report

Why We Invested in the HawkEye Elite

We could have bought cheaper alignment equipment. The HawkEye Elite costs significantly more than the sensor-based systems used by many independent garages. We chose it because the accuracy matters to us — and it should matter to you.

When a customer comes in with a car that's pulling to one side, they want it fixed. Not approximately fixed. Not "better than it was." Fixed. The HawkEye Elite gives us the precision to do that consistently, on every car, every time.

We also believe in transparency. Every alignment service at IQ Tyres includes a printed report showing your vehicle's angles before and after the service. You can see exactly what was wrong and exactly what was corrected. If everything was within tolerance and no adjustment was needed, we'll tell you — and the check is free.
